You might be thinking, “how is this possible?”. How could there be a secret to fitness motivation? If it were that easy, why wouldn’t everyone be in tip-top shape 24/7?
Here’s how to decode the secret to fitness motivation…
After 8 years as a fitness studio owner and fitness instructor, I have seen people succeed and have seen them fail.
And luckily, there is a secret to making fitness a habit. Once you’ve taken the time to adjust your mindset, you will find that your fitness motivation will become suddenly easy!
1. Choose a workout that you love doing
Honestly, this is one of the biggest reasons people have trouble sticking to their fitness goals. IF YOU DON’T LIKE THE WORKOUT YOU ARE DOING, YOU WON’T STAY CONSISTENT! I know, it sounds so simple. But if it’s a chore for you to complete your workout, you will never form a habit.
I often use the following as an example. I can jog, and when I do, I usually put in around 3 miles. But honestly, I really don’t enjoy it. I’m happy when I finish, but the 30ish minutes it takes me to run is a torture session for me. I would never be able to stay consistent if all I did was run. But I’ve discovered that I love indoor cycling. I also love the challenge of a barre class or the speed and sweat in a power yoga class.
These are activities that I will gladly go back to day after day. It’s not a chore for me, it’s fun and something I look forward to. And that’s what makes all the difference.
Take a moment to think about what you love doing. Is it a dance cardio class? Is it brisk walking? Is it swimming laps in the pool? The first key to creating fitness motivation is to figure out what you enjoy doing.
2. Schedule your workouts in your weekly calendar
Make yourself accountable for your workouts! The second key is to add your workouts to your calendar just as you would schedule any other important meeting. Think about it this way… is there any other appointment or task that is more important than your health? The obvious answer is NO.
This is a quote by Jim Rohn that I love and really hits home. “Take good care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live.” What a simple but true statement. When I’m looking for a little fitness motivation, I often come back to his quote.
3. Remove all obstacles that get in the way of your workout
Mic drop. It comes back to adjusting your mindset. Your workouts are just as important, if not more important, than anything else you do in your day.
Think about it… without good health, the things we take for granted every day are not guaranteed. And now take a moment to think about those people that you love, whether it is family, a significant other, or friends. What if you were unable to be there for them because your health was sacrificed? There’s nothing more important than creating healthy habits to help ensure you are living a full life as well as being there for the people you love.
The third key is to keep those appointments in your calendar by removing any conflicts that get in the way.
It’s simple to create fitness motivation and habits that stick, but not easy!
Finding fitness motivation takes effort, but once you think hard on it and take these three steps, it suddenly becomes more simple. And then something really cool happens after a little while – you create a habit. Once you’ve made it a habit, there’s no stopping you!
